YOU SHOULD CONSIDER ATTENDING THIS SEMINAR IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN

  • applying to family practice and/or primary care internal medicine programs
  • proactively impressing the interviewers with a sophisticated and cultured dialogue about primary care
  • getting some ideas and buzzwords for your personal statement

THIS SEMINAR IS NOT FOR YOU IF YOU ARE SEEKING

  • generic advice on highlighting your strengths, playing down your weaknesses, foreseeing where you will be in ten years, or discussing your interests outside medicine (There are many seminars for this sort of advice.)
  • applying to specialties other than the family practice or primary care internal medicine

By the time you have been invited to an interview, your performance in person during the interview probably counts more than your grades and your personal statement on paper. Do you feel that you have the grades for residency training but could not impress the interviewers in the past?

While presenting yourself as a well-groomed, confident and cordial team member is an important part of the interview, all other candidates are already doing the same, and you are unlikely to stand out. However, each specialty or field of medicine has its own unique approach to patient care, values, and paradigms; so does primary care. If you are able to discuss them and their relevance to our complex healthcare system, to demonstrate your insight and critical thinking, perhaps you will be that candidate the interviewer remembers when the program finalizes the shortlist for match ranking.
